We are a group of professional users of Microsoft SQL Server dedicated to sharing knowledge with each other. We aim to increase the knowledge level of each member of the group and to increase the usefulness of the product for each member. The group usually meets on the 4th Thursday of each month with this months meeting being held at the Microsoft Brisbane Office, Level 28, 400 George Street.
  • The next meeting will be on the 17th December 2015
Please arrive around 5:30 - 5:45 for a 6pm start. (It is important to note that the building lifts get locked at 6pm). Most meetings will be finished by around 7:30pm. The format of each meeting will normally be an introductory level session for 20 minutes to half an hour, followed by a more advanced level session for around an hour. We hope this will allow both newcomers and old-hands to feel at home and to get something from each meeting.

February 2016 QLD SQL Server User Group - Allen White

Maintain SQL Server Performance Baseline w/PowerShell

Maintaining a solid set of information about our servers and their performance is critical when issues arise, and often help us see a problem before it occurs.  Building a baseline of performance metrics allows us to know when something is wrong and help us to track it down and fix the problem.  This session will walk you through a series of PowerShell scripts you can schedule which will capture the most important data and a set of reports to show you how to use that data to keep your server running smoothly.

About the Speaker

Allen White is the Business Development Manager for SQL Sentry. He's been both a developer and an administrator so understands both perspectives towards database technology, and loves sharing his experiences and helping people learn how to use SQL Server.  Allen has spent over 40 years in IT and has been using SQL Server since 1992 and is certified MCITP in SQL Server and MCT.  Allen has been awarded Microsoft’s MVP Award for the last nine years.
